speaking of piercings

i got my septum, as opposed to any other available body part, pierced mainly because the piercing is easy to hide. this is one of the lessons i've learned since i've been out of library school: the widely-spread rumor that all libraries are bastions of liberalism and all librarians are freak-loving lefties is, sadly, false. it's true that many academic libraries are tinged with the sweet stink of tolerance for intellectual curiosity, but our patrons are still mommy-works-for-merck and i'm-driving-daddy's-bmw and our board of trustees are still, well, mommy and daddy. i suppose in a more urban setting i could let my piercings peek out and nobody would pitch a fit (well, depending on the piercing, i suppose...) but in my current circumstances i'm restricted to the invisible body as my canvas.

i'm sure there's a thesis-length article lurking about in this subject somewhere... i'll have to dig it out when i have more time to think about it.
