the metaphor we use to describe emotions is very strange. people say, let them out! don't bottle them up! you might explode! it's very similar to the old idea of humours. are emotions liquid? gas? do they take up space? commonly accepted science suggests that emotions are merely electrical impulses in the brain, but that certainly isn't how we experience them.
